KARIYAWASAM Kamal (Capitano)
7 luglio 1958
RHB & WK - 33 ODI

Having come to Italy in 1981 after being Sri Lanka under-19 wicket-keeper, Kamal is one of the legendary figures of Italian cricket. Impeccable behind the stumps, he loves standing up to the quickies. Holds the record for most dismissals at the European Championship with 15 victims in 1998.

Brera C. & F.C.

ZUPPIROLI Valerio (Vice-capitano)
17 giugno 1974
RHB & WK - 29 ODI

The best homegrown player Italy has ever produced. An explosive hitter who loves getting on to the front foot and dictating the tempo of the game, unusual for Italians. Has tightened his defense considerably and, having lost more than 3 stones become a useful performer for club, if not yet country, behind the stumps.

Pianoro C.C.

Pic 1

BONORA Alessandro
24 maggio 1978
RHB & RM - 6 ODI

Born in Bordighera near Genova and emigrated to Cape Town at 18 months only to discover Italian cricket through the web and return to Italy for good in April 2000. A sound and reliable batsman of the most orthodox technique who can either open or bat at No° 3. Occasional medium pace stand breaker.

Roma C.C.

  CORBELLARI Andrea
28 giugno 1974
RHB & RF - 11 ODI

An all rounder of true international status who has played first class cricket for Boland and Middlesex. Bowls fast, bats competently and brings a touch of South African standards to the Azzurri's fielding.

Brackenfell C.C.

  DI VENUTO Peter
12 gennaio 1970
LHB & RM - 6 ODI

Elder brother of Australian international Michael, Peter was the hero of Italy's surprising win over Denmark in Scotland 2000 when he scored 92, went off to hospital and returned to bowl 5 tight and decisive overs. One of the controversial band of four that caused the well known dispute over eligibility.

North Hobart C.C.

  GATTI Lorenzo
29 marzo 1984
RHB & RFM - Uncapped

The great white hope of Italian cricket. A bowler capable on his day to rip through a side with his prodigious lift and a straight hitting batsman of considerable power. Also a very good outfielder.

Pianoro C.C.

  GIORDANO Benito
20 dicembre 1971
RHB & RM - 26 ODI

The first of the controversial "ius sanguinis" players to appear on the scene, Benito, a lecturer in urban geography at Manchester University who shares his time between Lancashire and Naples, will be hoping to repeat the feats of 2000, including his matchwinning partnership with Peter Di Venuto against Denmark.

Glossop C.C.

  JAYASENA Hemantha
16 settembre 1971
LHB & LB - 13 ODI

Came to Italy in 1992 to play for Cesena on a Sri Lanka Cricket Board scholarship and never went back. A ferocious opening bat that can set the innings off to a gallop but also play responsibly as shown during the Championship record opening stand with Scuderi against England in 1998. On his day a leg spinner that can can go through a side and a very good fielder close to the wicket.

Pianoro C.C.

  KARIYAWASAN Yohan
29 gennaio 1984
RHB & LB - Uncapped

Nephew of the legendary Italian skipper, Kamal, Yohan is unquestionably the most talented of Italy's young batsmen and has made himself into a useful bowler. Needs to tighten his fielding to strengthen his status in the full international arena. Spent the winter in Melbourne on a scholarship with the Crusaders.

Lazio

  KETIPE Samantha
15 febbraio 1964
RHB & OB/RM - Uncapped

Came to Italy with Hemantha Jayasena and followed his path. A sound batsman in any place of the order who can adapt his style to the requirements of the game. Much the same bowlingwise where he can be an attacking off spinner or a defensive medium pacer if not mixing the two styles.

Pianoro

  MORETTI Luca
5 febbraio 1985
RHB - RM - Uncapped

Born in England of Italian parents, a dour batsman and a positively negative defensive bowler who bowled a superb maiden in the penultimate over of Italy's closely fought victory against Gibraltar at last year's European under 17 Championships.

 Keighley C.C.

  PERERA Kelum
1 febbraio 1984
RHB - WK & OB - Uncapped

One of two young Italian players of subcontinental extraction, Kelum has shown the maturity over the last two seasons to bat succesfuly at the top of the order in the Italian Championship but needs still to assert himself at international level. A natural born leader in the field as proved by his status of under 19 national captain.

Bologna C.C.

  QURESHI Aklaq
7 febbraio 1962
RHB & RM - 24 ODI

Unquestionably Italy's player of the 90s and, from July 5th this year at last and deservedly an Italian citizen. More than his memorable feats with bat or ball, one can recall the times he took on teams single handed achieving the impossible and beyond. Anyone present at Clontarf on August 17th, 1995 will recall a superb all round performance against Leinster (166 & 3/12) that took Italy to the verge of an incredible victory. More recently, bowled a superb spell at the death against Denmark in Scotland 2000.

Bologna C.C.

SCUDERI Joseph Charles
24 dicembre 1968
RHB & RF - 6 ODI

Having just missed out on representing Australia in the 1992 World Cup, Joe has transformed the Italian team over the past four years. His performances with bat and ball, the results they brought and the controversy they caused are well known to all. Will take over from Doug Ferguson as player/coach at the end of the season spending the winters in Italy.
